I had this issue yesterday..I was out taking a walk and this lady and her kids were hanging out where I usually walk..she asked my if it was a girl and how old..I told her and her kids were smiling at my baby so I brought her closer to them so they could she her and the lady starts rubbing her leg and then rubbed her cheek..I looked at her hand and her finger nails were really dirty..i just walked away I was pissed!! I absolutely let my body language speak for itself and people generally know not to touch my baby. I always keep her little mittens on and socks so just in case someone did touch her hands she could not pass the germs to her mouth. The lady probably thought since you were open to her helping you, you probably wouldn’t mind if she could help herself to touching your child. Gross. luvleehoney

I just don’t let them… period! I don’t care if they think I’m overprotective or a b#tch. When it comes to my daughter I’ll be as overprotective as I want and I’m proud of it. The thing that annoys me the most is when peope let their germy toddlers come over and try to touch my baby! I know every toddler loves little babies but the parents should know better than to let them come over and try to touch another baby - especially a newborn! Yeah, that really makes me mad. I carry my daughter in a sling or front pack as much as possible when I’m out in public places so no one can touch her or sneeze on her, etc. atlas_junkie

I hated it when people touched my baby that young. She’s older now and i still don’t like it. The strange thing is that once when I saw a baby younger than mine, I touched the babies hand without thinking. I was so shocked that I had done that. It’s just something people do unconsciously. Maybe it’s an evolutionary process where the baby get exposed to different types of bacteria to build up its immunity? Mama Bear

i do not get mad or upset but it kind of annoys me.. the other day a woman comes over saying how cute my daughter is then touches her cheek and it bothered me just because i do not know where your hands have been or if you are sick or what…i just think out of respect people should ask or just not do it period because so many parents do not like it. i don’t scream at them or anything lol.if they keep doing it i just ask them not to.. *mommy and wife*

I hate when strangers touch my baby! I have a 7 week old also and we took her to the park today. Two little girls that were filthy from head to toe came over and started asking me about her then they started touching her. I was just thinking “uh, where are your parents? You need a bath and now my baby does too.” happybee

I hate it when people assume that it is OK to touch my baby. I don’t know how clean they are. Where have those hands been?? I would never just touch someones baby without being given the OK by the parents. Just not cool! This one man in the grocery store tickled my daughter’s feet. Then told his wife to do it because she has ticklish feet. She said “No, it’s not right to touch someones baby without asking”. I was like Thank you!! Her husband acted a little embarrassed after that as well he should.Ooh and Aah over her all you want but don’t touch my baby!! MousieBaby

Well I typically don’t like ppl touching my kids when they were infants. But since you approached the lady, she probably was just being friendly when she touched your baby. The odds are she didn’t have anything contagious at that moment. catherine T

I understand how you feel and no people should not touch someones baby without their permission. As far as getting anything from the person no one knows that? Older people say do not bring your baby outside until they are about 2-3 months or have had their first series of immunity injections. But the lady is an idiot for touching the baby and you have every right to nicely tell baby that you prefer they not touch your child. Tigerspaw357

I didn’t mind a little pat on top of her head, or touching her feet, but I REALLY didn’t like when strangers would grab my daughter’s hand! Ew! I have no idea if they’re sick or a grungy, unsanitary person!! Thankfully my daughter survived, LOL!! I found it easier to keep hands off when I would wear her!! Lauren F
