How do you know when your baby can sit up in a stroller?

baby stroller
truth is… asked:

This may sound like a silly question, but I’m serious.

I have a 6 week old daughter. Her neck/head control has been really good since she was born, but it’s gotten a lot better lately. When I put her over my shoulder to burp, her head is always propped up on her own and she looks around behind me. She does this all the time!

When I sit her on my lap to burp, she mostly rests her head on my hand, but on occasion she will sit up straight, with her torso resting on my hand.
We have had her sit in a Bumbo before, but since she’s so small the back of the Bumbo helps her support her head. I want to start getting ready to put her in a regular stroller, instead of just in the infant seat. But, I’m not sure how you know when your baby has neck/head control to be sat up in a stroller?

If you’re using a stroller that the seat can recline you can start using it now. Just make sure the seat is back enough to where she is supported. If you’re asking about something like an umbrella stroller then I wouldn’t use this until your daughter can sit up on her own(generally around 6 months). Noah’s Mommy & Marine Wife.

I would see how she does in a high chair. If she sits up well in that, then I’m sure the stroller is okay. As a side not though…six weeks seems kind of young to me. Worry Wart

when she sits up other places on her own you can put her in something that is moveing or starts and stops, otherwise she is gonna fall over everytime you start to move or stop. humboldt1965amy

You are fine to put her in a reclining stroller at any time, just put it up enough that she can see what is going on around her but still be pretty much laying down. Umbrella strollers are not a good idea until 6 months. My girl is 5 months old and even in our umbrella stroller with a 5 point harness she makes me EXTREMELY nervous (we’ve used it exactly once) because she really looks like she’s going to fall right out. She leans forward too! Definitely do NOT try to use any stroller with a 3 point harness. Little babies really need the shoulder straps to keep them from getting seriously hurt. Object Permanence

no, she’s still too young. for now only put her in a stoller if the carseat attatches to it and shes in that. You’ll know shes ready when she sits up oh her own and there is no support needed for her head at all anymore. She probably wont sit up till about 6 months old. if you feel you need to put her in a stroller without the carseat, make sure she’s strapped in, and laying down. otherwise she can be hurting her neck and back. It depends on if she can hold her head up, and for a good amount of time. If she can, recline the seat in the stroller. You could also try putting a infant support pad in the stroller too, if that helps.

6 weeks seems a little young to me, it may not hurt to wait a little bit longer. Alicia
