You can't 'teach' your child to happily stay in a stroller. Some children are more placid in nature and don't mind sitting in them for a while, others don't like it and you can't teach or force them to like it. You can try coaxing them with some food or nibbles to eat while you eat, but when they've had enough they will want out. None of my four children ever stayed in a stroller or highchair for more than 10min max.. especially if we stopped moving.
Remember that some strollers provide no back support whatsoever.. and others have such an uncomfortable position that it actually hurts the child to sit in them after a while. Unfortunately, children require a lifestyle change.. if you don't want to compromise, you should have thought twice..! married mum

I believe that you should incorporate him into the meal and give him LOTS to do as in toys and things to see to keep him occupied! As long as he is not hungry , wet, cold, or hot, he should be just fine in this stroller while you dine outside! Also, do not get into the habit of spoiling him with letting him out of the stroller at his every whine about it! Sit and look him in the eyes and tell him he has to stay in the stroller but, he can get out soon! And, them get his mind off of his "wants" and give him a snack or something to entertain him!! :-) melissa d

My husband and I sit outside with our son in his stroller all the time. I give him something to snack on, and then rock his stroller back a forth a bit with my foot. Works like a miracle. He loves to eat with us. Hates to see us eat, and not participate though. So I always give him bites of my food. Otherwise he would be screaming the whole time :) Good luck. J. Christine R
