You shouldn't take a newborn out into cold winter air. It's cruel to expose him to elements that will more than likely make him sick. Even when going from the house to the car, you should bundle him up and cover his face to keep cold air out of his lungs. If you must walk, either get someone to stay home with him or take him to the mall where there is a warm environment. Please don't let people touch or kiss him because he could catch all kinds of illness this time of year.

Congratulations on your little bundle of joy.

My third baby was born 3 years ago in mid-November, and it had started snowing by then. My oldest child had to go to school, and we lived 4 blocks---I was not going to drive (our vehicle was 1/2 block away)! I put her in a fleece pouch sling, inside my coat. She kept me warm, I kept her warm. I put socks on under her jammies, a hat, and a too big sweater that covered her hands. My scarf came down into the pouch. It was awesome, and changed my life. Seriously. Babywearing is awesome exercise (your body thinks it weighs you+baby so you burn more calories, it's weight bearing so it's good for your bones, and you naturally progress as baby weighs more).

Babies cannot maintain their own body temperature, so a stroller is not a good option yet. Not to mention the snow issue. We baby wore until she hit 35lbs. Once she was about 8 months she rode on my back alot, depending on which way the wind was coming, LOL. I really miss having her extra warmth. Remember, you count as a clothing layer, LOL, and the sling counts too. Give the sling a try and see if a little fresh air doesn't help!

hello!

First of all congratulations on your new bundle of joy! :o) Its great to get some exercise, and if your baby is wrapped up warm it will be ok...

BUT take it slowly ... 45m-1h is just too long for your baby (and you!) to be walking outside .... your body has been through alot, so go slooowly and build yourself up again gradually.

Aim to be walking for 30 minutes a day by the time your baby is (for example!) 3 months old ... but begin by taking it slowly ... start with just a 10 minute walk round the park together, and then home, just a few times a week, and build it up and up ...

this means your not doing too much with your body, and also your letting baby get his immune system up gradually.

Its great you want to exercise - its such a boost! But just take it slowly, for both you and your baby ...

Good luck, and lots of congratulations again!

bundle him well, plus infant seats usually have a wind gaurd that works in conjunction with the stroller shade or
go to a mall or a store to walk .. just don't allow people to touch him and bring hand sanitizer for yourself
or you can bundle him and wear a sling, just be careful to make sure he is warm but also has adequate air flow

best bet is probably a mall and keeping him away from everyone

Bundle him up, put him facing you in a carrier, put your pregnancy coat on around both of you and go. He'll be warm and snug in the carrier, so have a nice walk. I took my son out in -10C weather when he was a newborn, and he's fine.

*Edit* With all the nay-sayers, saying you're baby will get sick, think of this. How did the human race survive an ice age? I don't think they had warm malls to walk around in.

A sling would be better, but bundle him up real good, dont let a bit of his skin touch the air, keep him completely covered... and not for too long of a walk maybe 20mins max.

Yes it would be fine but every inch of his body should be covered.

It's safe, as long as it isn't dangerously cold. Keep him covered up - if he's in a stroller add blakets, put him in a little snow/warm suit and drape a blanket over where he's sitting.

I think you should wait until he is at least 2 months
just to be safe since newborns are very susceptible to flu/viruses
maybe do some exercises at home in front of the tv or run on the treadmill?
