Try a toy you attach to the seat so he can see it, they have wonderful toys at babies r us. And it does get better when you can switch the car seat around, he will be able to see you and you can pop a baby Einstein DVD and it works like magic. As for the stroller rides, it gets better too, attach toys to the sun shade something colorful. And when he is able to cheerios you put some of those in the tray and he will love it.
For now I say you try a sling carrier, so he is close to you.
Good luck, enjoy your baby.

My son was exactly the same way! I hated going in the car with him :(. Using a wrap to carry him is a great idea! That's what I did and he loves it. I'll include a site to find the best one for you.
He did better when we took him out of the infant seat and put him in the larger convertible car seat. It's just a stage and soon he will get used to it. I know it's hard. It's too bad he loves his mommy so much he just wants you to hold him :)

Our 4 month old baby did this too. I use a carrier for walks as well as a stroller. When she gets too fussy in the stroller I pop her in the carrier and little by little she has been able to handle being in the stroller for longer periods of time. Also, you can try getting a baby mirror that they make for cars. The kind where you put it in the back window so you can see the baby from your rear view mirror. I have one on the stroller and in my car. Our baby is so busy looking at the mirror that she doesn't fuss much at all anymore. Please don't let your baby "cry it out." Babies cannot be spoiled and if they feel more comfortable being held then hold them. They are only babies for a little while and the crying will pass. Do what you can to make your baby feel safe and loved. :) You will be happy that you did.

i had a hard time getting my first daughter into the car she hated to be facing backwards, up until the age of one it was a challenge i tell you.... if u are using the car seat in the stroller i would take it out and just lay him in the stroller and maybe that might help

Why doesn't he like them? Because you take him out of them and hold and cuddle him! He likes that better. It works.

Leave the baby in, no matter what (Good judgement used here, folks!) for a few minutes at a time at home. Work up to full rides in the car or around the block, etc.

This is simply non-negotiable! (Because it's about safety!)

This is how you teach children to do/tolerate something important for them/about safety. Period. It works, and a few times of discomfort (listening to screams, watching squirms, etc.) is less cruel than teaching your child that he has too much control over his world, or that he can get people around him to jump if he is upset or loud enough! That makes children feel insecure. Not something you want to see three years from now!

Try buying a more comfortable car seat. Many car seats don't have much cushion.

There must be something about the position he is in in those he does not like. I would continue to try them for short periods of time. (Obviously not the car seat - he will just have to be in that even if he does not like it.) If it is possible and safe, try to reposition him. Otherwise, you could get a sling type carrier and "wear" him on walks.

Maybe he is uncomfortable? Check for itchy tags in his clothing. He is 3 months? Or 3 and a half (3.5 not 3,5) Or is he 35 months-little over 2 years old?

Maybe the swing seat is too hard? Maybe the car seat straps at too tight? Again, check the comfortl level.

He will probably like the car rides eventually , but in the meantime , if you want to just go around your neighborhood , try a baby sling.
