What should I do for a stroller before the baby is 6 months?

baby stroller
Amanda asked:

I found a stroller that I love and a carseat, but the problem is that the stroller is made for 6mos+. I won’t use a stroller very often before 6 months, but I’d like to have one that reclines for a newborn or that you can set the car seat in for those few times. What should I do for a stroller before 6 months without having to buy 2 expensive strollers?

I dont use my stroller often, because I drive everywhere, But I had found a nice Eddie Baurer stroller for 120 bucks, it reclines all the way back, and has a really safe looking buckle. Look around, you dont wanna spend too much if you dont have to. pslade

You really, really do not need a stroller; just get a baby sling or other soft carrier. I did not have a stroller until my daughter was 19mo. Life without a stroller is much more convenient than with a stroller… Dyot

Graco and several others make a travel system (car seat and stroller) that the car seat sits in the stroller and then the stroller can be used once the child gets older too. The seat in the stroller reclines, so if you WANTED to use it with out the carseat when your baby was small, you could. I had one with my first daughter and I loved it! We didnt think we would use the stroller much but we ended up using it quite a bit when she was in her car seat and even afterward. Mommy to 1+triplets

try a baby re-sale shop… they may have something there for little money…. I would say use a sling.. but your baby will get too big for that before he/she is 6months…. honestly my son was in the big part of his stroller at around 4 months… (he was a big baby) but you never know! Good luck! Caitlin M

I got a travel system. Comes with car seat, pram and then you can turn it into a pushchair. From newborn for however long they need to use a pushchair…I got the graco quattro travel system was about £250 maddiesmum

We used a travel system (mothercare, graco type) This was great. The car-seat would click into the push-chair/pram part. Our daughter would fall asleep in her car-seat and it was so much easier to just take the car-seat out and click it into the pram part without waking her. Then when she out-grew the car-seat part, the push-chair converted to a pram for sleeping. It is well worth checking them out. Astaroth

You can get just a stroller frame that fits most infant carriers. Some are specific to a brand but there are others that are basically universal. Try Amazon or Diapers.com and use stroller frame as your search term. Nancy

I didn’t even buy a stroller for my daughter until she was over the 20lb mark. Before that, I just put her in a sling or backpack carrier. Strollers are bulky, don’t fit in tight spaces like restaurants, take up all your trunk space, and plus little babies just cry when they are in them because they want to be held. J S

Buy one of those baby to toddler strollers like the Fisher Price baby to toddler stroller. lopku

Just get a basic stroller frame like the Baby Trend Snap N Go. Graco makes one also. I would even suggest getting one second hand from Craigslist or a baby resale shop. Since your baby will always be in the infant carrier car seat and will never touch the actual stroller you don’t have to worry about those second hand baby germs.

I loved my Snap N Go and recommend it to all first time moms. Its so great, easy to use and inexpensive. Being able to take the baby from the car to the stroller without waking him/her - priceless!

    Good luck!
