I know this sounds “far out” but maybe you could print up some big posters like the ones political candidates use and stake them in the yards of offenders if you know where they live. They could say something like: I speed through our neighborhood and don’t give a $%*&( whose kids or dogs/cats I kill. I’m a real jerk and only care about myself. My neighborhood is the same way and the city council meetings don’t seem to help. I may try the news media next. Video record them and their license plates while they’re speeding, then send it in to the local news and try to get them to broadcast it on the 6 oclock news!! Good luck. ladybugwasmylove

Move. HOA’s are supposed to protect residents from unwelcome activities. Unfortunately for you, speeding doesn’t seem to be unwelcome there. Get the town to install a traffic camera; most towns won’t mind receiving a couple extra bucks from tickets. thor

best bet is to get with your city’s engineering dept and get their statistical data for your street together with a petition for speed bumps and go to your city council and demand a resolution. HOA’s have no say on public streets. and depending on the amount of traffic and flow of traffic you might not be able to even get speed bumps installed do to access rights of Emergency vehicles. as far as installing more signage unless the signs meet ANSI standards and put up by your local governing body the police can’t even write tickets for them. ben e

i truly sympathize w/ you because my wife, and i are in the same boat as you. we tried the speed bumps; but without fail that idea was shot down by the city as the fire department claimed that this was actually un safe because they would be delayed to calls(we were looking at about 20 through out a 220 home sub. the city supposedly can’t ticket wrongly parked cars because it’s private resident, the hoa pulls the stupid card at our meetings trying to ship you off to the city.the best you can do is have a lawyer draw up a petition and get it signed by a 65% majority of the home owners. the percentage may very w/ your hoa. good luck to you. hotrod

im a highschooler and in my neighborhood we have similar problems. i have to admit ive touched 40-50mph in my ‘hood but lately theyve had speed traps etc in place (as you mentioned) and they didnt work (same) so the ‘hood assoc. got togethor and *charged* everyone like 200$ to install speed bumps and i hear next year they will put in a gate with a guard (excessive? its not that upperclass as to be beverly hills) Water Polo player

A good question, with unfortunately no good answers. If it’s a public street, even if it has an HOA in place, the police should be able to monitor and hand out tickets, but I realize it’s hard for them to be there 24/7. Speed bumps are really not an answer, all they do is damage cars for the most part. Often times the persons who put in the speed bumps wind up having to pay for damage to cars. Looks like you only have a few options, push the local police for better enforcement, or move. oklatom

what a good question. there was a time in my earlier days when i was that kid in my hot rod comet that was hollered at by all the old fogies on my street. i just laughed and sped by. now, that im a bit more mature, and a father of a fantastic 3 yr. old boy, i have become one of the old fogies that bitch at the kids blasting past. the cops think that one of those flashing signs that read your speed as you drive towards it is the answer… WRONG!!!!!!!! UNTIL THE COPS GET SERIOUS, AND GET ‘EM WHERE IT HURTS THE MOST (WALLET) NOTHING GETS DONE!! thanks for the question. i feel better now. haahaa. gearhead_35k

Maybe there is a way to request a police traffic cop to do radar there. Once those high price tickets start popping up I’m pretty sure they’ll slow down. 40+ in a 25 mph NEIGHBORHOOD will be a hefty fine. bryce

Well what has always worked for me is intimidation. Let people know who lives there. I am on a corner lot with the front of my house on a short, dead end street so there is no speeding there. But on the side, there is another road which eventually dead ends but is longer. It is un-marked and not too busy. On that road, people used to whiz by, it is a 25 and they would do 35-40 easy. One person used to drive a crotch rocket down the road at 80+ and when that happened, I was at the neighbors with my father, (the neighbor of course) his son, son in law, and a few other people. When he came by my neighbor yelled at him. He left to get his “brothas” and when they came back they were too afraid to do anything. Other instances were where people would drive fast, I would simply throw an apple at their car. Now nobody has sped by for years;) Jr. Mechanic

go to your next city council meeting,,and bring this issue up,,we did and it worked,,it took a few times to get it done,,but we finally got the speed humps put in ,and the signs,,it slowed them down..and it also busted a few shock absorbers also,,but they learned to slow down ,,good luck ,you have to argue your point with them,but you can eventually get something done about it,,hope this help,s. dodge man
