u make me sick. most women are so stressed out with their kid and other things they dont have time to deal with A**holes like you. you make a 5 year old walk around for 3 hours while you shop then tell me you dont want a stroller. get a life

its usually other ppl who are rude. and dont watch out. i've never ran into someone just to get through unless they were being rude and wouldn't step out of the middle of the isle. and second if u had kids you would know why a 5 yr old would be in a stroller! i have a 3 yr old who is perfectly capable of walking along side me....however children like to sprint off and touch stuff..,...buckle 'em in a seat and there's no sprinting and you control who close they are to something...so no touching either. try being considerate next time.,.....ever think you're the problem in the situations

I agree with you.... to an extent.

I'm a mom of 2 (currently 3.5yrs and 10 month old)...

And right now I don't even OWN a stroller (sold them in hopes of getting a better one.. haven't yet)!

I agree that moms sometimes seem to take up the entire isle, seem to think they have the 'right of way', seem to 'expect' people to open doors for them....etc.....

But in their defense...........Have you ever had to push around one of those gargantuan things?! Yikes! They are built like TANKS, for one... Most of the ones that come as "travel systems" (with the infant carrier that hooks in) or even worse...double strollers.... are absolutely HUGE in size to begin with. Let alone the stores with isles so narrow two people could hardly brush by eachother without bumping elbows - let alone a huge stroller with kids that have arms, legs, heads flailing about.... The wheel base is incredibly wide... they are so hard to maneuver sometimes.... I think they should require a license!

And so... Most moms don't even have a fighting chance. They got the stroller back when they were a "first time mom" or they got it as a gift.... and at first sight the stroller in all its SIZE and glory seems really great. It's all they'll ever need or want - a fortress on four wheels...or more. And then they actually have to take it somewhere and it's all downhill from there.

And as for your last comment... Yes, a 5 year old can walk - no stroller needed. But have you ever gone shopping with a 5 year old? It's like going to Home Depot with your husband (which sometimes I wish they'd make carts big enough to put your husband in when you get there!). You get near the TOY section (or video games or baseball cards or.... power tools....) and you'll never find them again. And all you came in for was an egg timer. By the time you're ready to leave you've also picked up a mega-bottle of Tylenol, an aqua foot-massager and a 24 pack of Bud Light... it's gonna be a long night!

So, you might run into the occasional "rude mom" but honestly.... most of us are just trying to get out of your way... the quickest way possible... and sometimes it'd be quicker if you'd just be kind enough to hold open the door.

You don't have kids, do you. The 5yr old can walk on his own, but it's easier to know your child is nearby and not running around getting into things. Did you ever think to move your butt around the lady w/ the stroller? It's that really so hard for you to do? Why should she move for you? If she is blocking the only way to get through, then ask her to please move. Dont just stand behind her waiting until she gets a clue. You try carrying a baby/toddler/ child around the store while you try to shop. As far as opening doors for these women w/ strollers, nobody made you do it. You have a choice. It's just nice manners is all. You dont have a problem voicing your opinion here. Next time why don't you tell that lady w/ stroller in person if it bothers you so much..

This could just as easily turn into, "Why do people pushing grocery carts think they own the whole store?" or "Why do people with wheelchairs think they own the sidewalk AND it's their own personal autobahn?"

To answer your question, there's two possible explanations. The first is that some people are inconsiderate and won't be aware of their surroundings. Of course, I see way more slack-jawed yokels in my local IKEA doing this all on their own, so it's not just moms. Too many people don't realize they aren't the center of the universe.

Secondly...actually, everything is answered by the first part, above. People just don't pay attention. If some people just looked at where they were going, they would notice that the person with the stroller had been walking on one side of the sidewalk for awhile now. The non-stroller person just needed to remove their head from their butt long enough to realize they were hogging the path.

True story - not long ago while I was driving down a busy street a man and a woman pushing a stroller were crossing (legally with the cross sign on) and some a**hole trying to turn right on a red light slammed on his brakes about two feet away from them and starting blasting his horn for them to get out of his way.

Was that you?
